About this event
Join us at a Stakeholder’s Conference: Safeguarding School Aged Children 2021 to hear the latest learning from local reviews. With an increase in concerns raised of school aged children during 2019/20 compared with the previous year, the need for strong and consistent policies and practice has become more important than ever. Covid-19 has resulted in schools operating differently in how they have monitored vulnerable children experiencing abuse and neglect during lockdown with a rise in the conditions of vulnerability. As we emerge from the Covid-19 pandemic, learning from safeguarding practice reviews will identify and support practitioners in protecting vulnerable school aged children.
- In 2019/20, the number of Section 47 safeguarding enquiries rose locally compared to previous years
- Neglect was a feature in three-quarters of all serious case reviews featuring school aged children (SCIE 2020)
- A survey by NHS Digital found 39% of school aged children experienced a deterioration in their mental health between 2017-2021 with girls aged between 11-16 more likely to experience a decline in mental health
