This course is designed for practitioners in Derby and Derbyshire who work with children and young people and have safeguarding responsibilities. Before booking, please ensure the course aligns with your role and that you have completed the DDSCP Working Together course. For information on training costs, please visit the DDSCP Terms and Conditions.

Practice Outcomes

The course aims to enhance practitioners' understanding of some of the barriers that may exist when working with families to keep children and young people safe.

Your Wellbeing

The DDSCP is committed to safeguarding the emotional and physical wellbeing of individuals. Please remember to practice self-care. If you need to leave the training at any point, inform us. For support after the session, stay online to talk to us or speak to a manager in your organisation. Comfort breaks will be provided.

Learning Objectives:

  • To develop skills and approaches in strengths-based practice to successfully engage with families.
  • Consider potential barriers to effective engagement with families and reasons why we may struggle to engage with families.
  • Understand how practitioners can develop a productive relationship with families to foster trust, openness and respect, and keep the child in focus

Virtual Training – essential information

  • Delegates who miss over 15 minutes of the training session might not qualify for a certificate.
  • Your learning is important to us. Please participate fully, keep your cameras on during breakout rooms and interactive activities to support group interaction.
  • Treat this virtual learning as you would face-to-face training. Set aside emails and other work commitments, plan to avoid interruptions, and make this time yours.
  • We use MS Teams to host training. If you experience issues like slides freezing or losing sound, please leave the training and rejoin. On most occasions this will solve the problem.
  • Headsets or earphones are recommended for virtual training. If unavailable, ensure you are in a private or quiet space to maintain concentration and confidentiality.
  • The MS Teams link and course materials can be downloaded from your training account 10 days before the event.
  • After completing an evaluation, you can download the slides, training handout, and your certificate from your account.
