Detail:

This course is for practitioners working with children and young people across Derby and Derbyshire with responsibility for safeguarding, who contribute to assessing, planning, intervening and reviewing the needs of a child where there are safeguarding concerns.

The multi-agency training is designed to give delegates a greater understanding of the effects of alcohol and substance misuse on parenting. It will look at the different substances and their effects on adults, effects of different drugs and alcohol on parenting and how agencies can work better together to provide appropriate care and support for all the family.

Learning Outcomes:

  • To increase understanding of the needs of parents who use drugs and/or alcohol and the impact on their children
  • To provide an introduction to the evidence and good practice in working with families affected by substance misuse
  • To build capacity by increasing confidence amongst front line workers to explore strategies of working effectively with parents in relation to drug and alcohol use.
  • To be able to respond to concerns about parental substance misuse and develop effective assessments and intervention skills
  • To improve effectiveness of partnership working in response to parental substance misuse by increasing understanding of different agencies roles and responsibilities

During the training you will be asked to take part in various interactive activities. To promote engagement, please keep your cameras on when working in breakout rooms to support interaction with the group.

Course materials will be available to download 10 days before the event. A copy of the slides and links to documents and further readings will be available after completing your evaluation.

Safeguarding training is of high importance and as a partnership we need to be satisfied that the learning outcomes have been achieved before providing a certificate of attendance. Any delegate joining more than 15 minutes late for training will not be eligible for a certificate and will be asked to rebook.
